T and I took Jake to Woodward Park the other day. Neither of us had been in years despite the fact that my Mr. asked me to marry him there
The park sure has changed in the last 10 years! There’s an amphitheater, a BMX track and even a dog park!
We fed the ducks + geese… Jacob was shocked at how forward and unafraid they are! He kept worrying and saying,”They’re going to eat me!”
It was a great day, not too hot & full of hand holding & kisses! I forgot my camera, and though Jake had his we didn’t take many pics… we did take one of this little tree though.
It reminded me of one of my favorite things in our home:
This is a peice of a step stool T made me in the early years of our marriage. When it finally gave way, I saved this side of it where he had etched/carved in “T M” inside a heart… Have I mentioned what an amazing husband I have? Or how he still makes my heart sing? …… He is, and he really truly does… so very much..
..getting back to our ducks.
Our ‘duck feeding adventures’ started last week sometime when J and I decided that we’d go on a “photo shoot day”. ‘Photo Shoot Days’ are day’s when we hop in the car with our camera’s and go on a photo scavenger hunt of sorts… this time we were focusing on cool signs & letters. We found some great one’s! Like this:
…taken by me… and this of the same sign…
…taken by my talented little photographer! I’m telling you, this boy’s got a great eye. He amazes me.
Along the way, we saw some ducks, so we stopped the car and popped out to take some pics of them. While we were out there a very sweet woman named Darlene who lived across the street offered us 3 BIG bags of bread to FEED (or over-feed) the ducks! We had a great time doing it and since we had our camera’s, we took some pictures!
Once we got through the bread, we walked across the street to Darlene’s house to thank her again. We got to talking and she asked us to pray for her 7 year old grand daughter Haley who has Cystic Fibrosis. Which we are definitely doing daily. Feel free to do the same as God reminds you! We are also going to take our water bottles (we dont drink soda or beer) over to her house when we get enough and she will turn them in with hers to donate to a foundation that Haley’s parents founded that is dedicated to finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Darlene had quite a story and both Jake and I really enjoyed chatting with her. What a strong and amazing woman!
Other than that, I’ve been getting back into the swing of school and having T home! Back to eating lunch alone and talking to my dog about presidential candidates & design…
Jake has had a bit of a hard time with school this year. His teacher expects A LOT from him. He really doesn’t want to go and has cried a few times when the bell rings. It’s really hard for me, and certainly not something I can relate to as I always loved going to school. T on the other hand, hated it and said he was much harder on his mom than Jake is on us… I can’t imagine! It breaks my heart.. everyday!
I love him so much and I’d love to have him home all day everyday, but it’s that same love that pushes me to do what’s best for him and send him off into the great big world. I’ve thought about home schooling and I’ve thought about a great local private school for him..but right now these are not viable options. My main concern is that he keeps his love of learning. It’s hard to trust relative strangers with his sweet spirit… T has promised me that he’s fine and just ‘working us’ which is probably true …. but I seriously find myself doubting wether or not I’m doing the right thing every day as we walk home from dropping him off. I’m sure it will get better… I tend to forget that he’s adjusting too, so many things are going on in his 7 year old brian! I’m determined to do everything I can to make this school year his best yet!
