I just wanted to share this song with you. I love it. He’s my all time favorite. All time. If I’ve ever been jealous, it’s when my parents told me that they saw him live… I can not imagine what an experience that would have been. I wonder if all those people knew what true beauty & genius they were seeing…
This particular song is “mine & my dad’s song” … we had a rough time of it together.. still do sometimes.. but boy do I love him. That part always sends shivers down my skin when he signs, “If they were right, I’d agree, but it’s THEM they know, NOT ME!” I felt that way a lot growing up. I think all teenagers do… and now as a parent, the part that says, “From the moment I could talk, I was ordered to listen!” Well, it’s a good reminder to zip up MY lips and LISTEN to my son. Really, truly, LISTEN. It can be easy to just sort of, half-listen to our kids…
I have come to the conclusion that I do not want to be like all those people who had the honor of seeing Cat Stevens live and didn’t realize what a rare & beautiful thing they were getting to see & enjoy…

Sweet Jacob,
I see you…. you are such a treasure, and I hope that you will never doubt how deeply I love you or how fully I believe in you…I pray that you will always feel truly heard.. You are so beautiful..
so. beautiful.
I am SO much better because of you. Being your mom is an incredible honor. Thank you so much. Thank you *so* much.

Enjoy it folks… every moment. Please have a wonderful evening.. take some time to just listen.. cherish it all.. they wont be with us forever.
xoxoxoxo, Mariah

PS – If there are some who have never heard of the song, the lyrics are a conversation between both father and son.. starts out with dad, and then you can hear the change when the son responds … it’s a whole conversation going back and forth as he sings.. brilliant.
